Acai Vitamins and your health!

Acai vitamins, the popular health food supplements, are derived from the pulp of the exotic Acai berry which grows wild in the flood plains and rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in Brazil.

Acai berries are the fruit of the Acai palm tree (Euterpe oleracea). The berries are purple-black in color and look similar to a grape, but a little smaller. Acai berries ripen quickly and can spoil within a day of being picked. In order to preserve the Acai vitamins, the berry's pulp (the outer edible layer surrounding its large seed) is removed shortly after picking and either frozen or dehydrated into a powder and freeze dried. The powder form is then put into Acai vitamin and mineral capsules, juice and other Acai extract products.

The world-wide popularity of Acai vitamins is attributed to the high nutritional and medicinal value of the Acai berry. In particular, Acai vitamin supplements contain very dense concentrations of antioxidants. Scientists have found that antioxidants can significantly decrease the destructive nature of free radicals - the byproducts produced by the body that can harm your immune system.

Scientific studies have discovered that the antioxidant density of the Acai berry is not only greater than that of other fruits and berries but also substantially greater than that found in red wine and green tea, both of which have long enjoyed a reputation for their powerful antioxidant properties.

As well as their dense concentrations of antioxidants, Acai vitamin supplements are also rich in vitamins A, B and C, minerals, dietary fibers and healthy monosaturated fats. Some of the benefits accredited to Acai vitamins include:

• they help detoxify your body and strengthen your immune system due to the richness of their antioxidants and amino acids;

• they can help prevent disease by offsetting the cell-damaging effects of free radicals and slowing cell deterioration and therefore, to some degree, the ageing process;

• they improve digestion and metabolism through the combination of the Acai berry's dietary fiber and monounsaturated fats;

• they helps lower cholesterol and high blood pressure over time, due mostly to the healthy omega fatty acids;

• they can increases your energy levels; and

• they are an effective appetite suppressant.

The Acai vitamins' ability to suppress appetite while increasing metabolism and energy is the main reason they are often promoted as a weight loss product.

The health benefits of the Acai have been recognized for hundreds of years by the native people of Amazonian Brazil where it have been a staple part of the local native diet. Early records show that the Amazonian natives used it to cure open wounds and to boost their energy levels prior to battles.

Today, Acai vitamins are marketed world-wide and continue to grow in popularity as more and more people discover their many health benefits.
